Cloud-Native Streaming Infrastructure for Broadcasters and OTT

Eyevinn Technology designs and builds cloud-native streaming infrastructure for broadcasters and OTT platforms across the Nordics and Europe. We build containerised, open-source video pipelines — transcoding, packaging, delivery, and orchestration — that run in your own cloud and stay portable across providers, so the platform is yours to operate. Our streaming work includes TV4, ITV, TV2 Norway, and FloSports.

What cloud-native streaming means

Cloud-native streaming is a way of building the video pipeline out of small, independent services instead of one monolithic encoder or a single managed product. Transcoding, packaging, delivery, and orchestration each run as a containerised service you can scale, replace, or move on its own.

The practical effect is control. When a part of the pipeline needs to change — a new codec, a different packager, more capacity for one event — you change that part without touching the rest. You are operating a pipeline you understand, not renting a black box and hoping its roadmap matches yours.

Why it matters for video

Video load is spiky. A live final or a popular release pushes traffic up by an order of magnitude for a few hours, then it drops. Cloud-native infrastructure scales the parts under pressure and scales them back down afterwards, so you pay for the peak you actually have rather than provisioning for it permanently.

The catch with the easy path — a fully managed cloud video service — is that the convenience comes with per-stream or per-minute pricing and a hard dependency on one provider. The more successful you are, the more it costs, and the harder it is to leave. Building cloud-native on open source keeps the elasticity without that coupling.

How Eyevinn builds it

We build the pipeline from open-source components that run in your own cloud account, so the infrastructure and the data stay yours. A typical engagement covers containerised transcoding, packaging for HLS and MPEG-DASH, delivery and CDN integration, and the orchestration that ties them into an automated workflow triggered by content arriving rather than by an operator clicking through a console.

We can assemble and run the same open services quickly through Eyevinn Open Source Cloud to get you to a working pipeline fast, then hand the whole stack over for you to operate. We start from the operational realities — cost under load, failure behaviour, and how the pipeline is run day to day — not the demo.

Portable by design

Lock-in on streaming infrastructure usually arrives quietly, through managed services that are easy to adopt and expensive to leave. We design against that. The pipeline uses portable formats and containerised services, so moving clouds or swapping a component means changing that piece, not rebuilding the workflow.

Everything we deliver runs on open-source foundations. You keep and operate the platform whether or not you keep working with us — which is the point.

Who we work with

We build streaming infrastructure for broadcasters and OTT platforms across the Nordics, the UK, and beyond. Our work includes TV4, ITV, TV2 Norway, and FloSports — covering live sports, large-scale OTT, and the workflows where delivery has to hold up under peak concurrency.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does cloud-native streaming actually mean?

Cloud-native streaming means building your video pipeline from containerised, independently scalable services — transcoding, packaging, delivery, orchestration — rather than one monolithic encoder or a single managed product. Each part runs as a service you can scale, replace, or move on its own. It is the difference between renting a black-box platform and operating a pipeline you understand and control.

Is cloud-native streaming the same as using a managed cloud video service?

No. A managed video service is convenient but bundles the components and prices per stream or per minute, which couples your cost to your success and ties your architecture to one provider. Cloud-native, built on open source, gives you the same elasticity while keeping the pipeline portable across providers and free of per-stream managed pricing. You own the stack.

Can you build this in our own cloud account?

Yes. We build on open-source components that run in your own cloud account — AWS, or another provider — so the infrastructure and the data stay yours. We can also use Eyevinn Open Source Cloud to assemble and run the same open services quickly, then hand the whole thing over for you to operate.

How do you avoid cloud and vendor lock-in?

By building on open standards and open-source components rather than provider-specific managed services. The pipeline uses portable formats — HLS and MPEG-DASH — and containerised services that run anywhere containers run. If you need to move clouds or change a component, you change that piece without rebuilding the pipeline.
